The University of South Dakota School of Law is seeking a trial advocacy professor at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, dependent on qualifications. The position is on the tenure track and will be available starting during the 2018-2019 academic year. The successful candidate will teach two three-credit sections of the Trial Techniques class most semesters, and, in addition, will be responsible for coaching the trial team program. The trial team has a high rate of student participation.

Extensive litigation experience, and teaching experience at an ABA law school are highly preferred qualifications. It is also preferred that the candidate have prior publications and/or experience in the preparation of significant CLE materials. There is a possibility that the successful candidate will be able to add a substantive course to his or her teaching package, if desired, after the conclusion of the first year of teaching. Areas of possible need may include Evidence, Federal Jurisdiction, Criminal Procedure, White Collar Crime, and Debtor-Creditor Law. Other potential courses may be available.

The successful applicant must be a licensed attorney in a United States jurisdiction (a state or the District of Columbia).

Appointments for tenure-track positions are expected to fulfill the tripartite responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service.

Diversity and inclusiveness are values that are embraced and practiced at the University of South Dakota. Candidates who support these values are encouraged to apply. EEO/AA
