The Associate General Counsel is an officer of administration reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel who assists in handling all University legal affairs under the direction of the Vice President and General Counsel.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Vice President and General Counsel, provides general legal services and day to day advice to principal officers of administration.
Advises, drafts agreements and oversees judicial matters involving commercial transactions, sponsored research agreements, construction contracts, leases and grant proposals.
Advises with respect to employment, labor and human resource matters such as employee discipline, benefits and accommodation matters.
Oversees and participates in judicial proceedings involving the University, managing litigation matters and advising outside counsel.
Advises with respect to internal dispute resolution and administrative proceedings such as student disciplinary matters, faculty and union grievances, suspension or termination matters.
Assists in formulating and implementing institutional strategies for avoiding future legal problems.
Oversees responses to subpoenas directed to the University, including gathering records and ensuring compliance with legal requirements regarding confidentiality of student and employee records.
Serves on University committees as assigned by the Vice President and General Counsel.
Performs additional duties and assists with special projects as assigned.
Graduation from recognized college or university; graduation from recognized law school with a LL.B./J.D. degree. Must be admitted and in good standing in Pennsylvania or other state bar; admission to the Pennsylvania bar required within one year of appointment.
Knowledge of major areas of the general practice of law in a nonprofit higher education setting.
Minimum of 7+ years legal practice.
Demonstrated capacity for legal reasoning and clear and concise written and oral communications; ability to resolve complicated and delicate problems imaginatively and discreetly; high intelligence; ability to function effectively in an academic community.
Extensive Commercial Law, Employment Law experience.
Previous experience in a higher education setting.
Criminal Law and Litigation experience.
Experience with Title IX, ADA, FMLA and other EEO laws.
Experience with the criminal justice system
