(Ref: 250001D9) (Closing date: August 22, 2025)

The Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK LAW) is one of the most dynamic and accomplished research-intensive law schools in Asia. Since welcoming its inaugural student cohort in 2006, CUHK LAW has earned international recognition for excellence in legal research and education. This reputation is affirmed by the latest Research Assessment Exercise (2020) conducted by Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee, in which 83% of the Faculty’s research output was rated as “world-leading” (4*) or “internationally excellent” (3*). With a strong global outlook, our academic staff represent nearly twenty jurisdictions through their origins or training.

CUHK LAW now invites applications for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor. The Faculty maintains a strong research-intensive culture and places particular emphasis on high-quality scholarship with strong impact. Candidates for appointment at the Professor level are expected to have an established record of academic leadership in research and/or education at the international level. Appointees at the Associate Professor level should have an internationally recognised reputation for research excellence and a proven capacity to contribute to the Faculty’s research profile. Candidates for Assistant Professorships should have completed their doctorate by the time of appointment and either possess a strong record of quality publications or demonstrate clear potential to develop into a productive and impactful scholar.

The Faculty particularly welcomes applications in foundational common law subjects (especially private law subjects), artificial intelligence and law, intellectual property law, and PRC law. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates in other areas may also be considered. CUHK LAW values scholarship that engages with diverse methodologies, including interdisciplinary approaches.

Appointments will initially be made on a fixed-term basis of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should complete the online application form and upload the following documents:
(a) a cover letter (maximum 2 pages);
(b) a full curriculum vitae;
(c) a teaching statement (maximum 3 pages); and
(d) a statement of major research and scholarly achievements (maximum 3 pages), highlighting up to four representative publications or research outputs from the past five years, with a description of their originality, significance, and rigour.

The current starting base salary is HK$80,825 per month (approximately US$10,350 / £7,680 per month) for Assistant Professors, HK$100,050 per month (approximately US$12,825 / £9,510 per month) for Associate Professors, and HK$126,370 per month (approximately US$16,200 / £12,010 per month) for Professors. In addition to the base salary, appointees are eligible for a monthly housing allowance and an end-of-contract gratuity, subject to prevailing terms and conditions.

CUHK LAW is committed to promoting diversity and warmly welcomes applications from candidates whose backgrounds and experiences will enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the Faculty. Further information about CUHK LAW is available at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/law.

The application deadline is 22 August 2025. Please note that only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.

Prospective applicants are welcome to contact the Dean of the Faculty at deanoflaw@cuhk.edu.hk for informal inquiries.
