The Schulich School of Law is one of Canada’s most national law schools, with students coming from and returning to every province and territory of Canada. Offering and maintaining innovative and supportive services and programs for every student at the Schulich School of Law is a high priority, necessary for the welfare of students and to ensure that the Schulich School of Law maintains its place as a national leader in legal education and the Law School of choice for prospective law students from across the country. Reporting to the Dean and to the Associate Dean of Law on some matters, the Director, Student Services and Engagement is an integral part of the senior management team of the Law School and plays a central role in all matters related to the quality of the student experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Law School’s initiatives and programs designed to enhance student academic success, recruitment, retention and engagement, and the overall student experience.
Provide advice, direction, and support on individual and collective student problems and concerns, and develop new initiatives to encourage students to seek academic advising and to enable faculty members to participate as fully as possible in this advisory role.
Facilitate accreditation, articulation, and partnership agreements on behalf of the Law School.
Interpret and apply the Law School’s academic regulations, and provide advice and guidance to various Law School committees, faculty and students on policies and regulations.
Contribute to the Law School’s and the University’s success by providing input into the development of the Law School’s strategic and operational plans and by ensuring that the Law School achieves its student services and engagement goals.
Engage with other similar professionals in Canadian and international law schools and universities to ensure that the Schulich School of Law is aware of and is using best practices in student services.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years related field experience as part of a senior management team in the postsecondary sector (equivalent combination of training and experience would be considered). Knowledge of Canadian law schools and the Canadian legal profession are required. Demonstrated leadership in program design, policy development, strategic planning and coaching/advising also required. Candidates must have superior written and verbal communication, interpersonal, public speaking and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate and direct individuals and teams to achieve objectives. Empathy and problem-solving skills, and the ability to develop creative and appropriate solutions, and to ensure effective implementation, essential.

Salary Range: $75,283 – $101,853 per annum (ADM-08). This is a provisional classification. Formal classification procedures will be initiated by the Compensation & Job Evaluation Unit in approximately six months. This position is part of the Dalhousie Professional & Managerial Group (DPMG).
