The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay campus, invites applications for up to two (2) Limited Term Faculty positions each for a term of 10 months to three years, dependent on qualifications and experience. The appointment(s) will commence August 1, 2017 at an academic rank commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Lakehead is a comprehensive university with a reputation for innovative programs and cutting-edge research. With campuses located in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Lakehead has approximately 10,000 students and 2,160 faculty and staff.  With an emphasis on collaborative learning and independent critical thinking and a multidisciplinary teaching approach, Lakehead offers a variety of degree and diploma programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels through its ten faculties, including Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Health and Behavioural Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Science and Environmental Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities, Graduate Studies, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (West Campus) and Ontario’s newest Faculty of Law. The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law has a tripartite mandate, which includes a focus on Aboriginal and Indigenous law, natural resources and environmental law, and sole/small firm practice. The Faculty’s Integrated Practice Curriculum incorporates the requirements of articling into the Faculty’s three-year program. The Law Society of Upper Canada has approved the Integrated Practice Curriculum; as a result, successful graduates may be called to the bar in Ontario without completing a separate period of articles. Our faculty have experience practicing law, and many of our courses include skills-based exercises. 

The successful candidate(s) will teach up to three full-course equivalents per year in areas covered in the JD Program including, but not limited to Aboriginal-Canadian Legal Issues, Indigenous Legal Traditions, Contracts I & II, Property Law, Business Organizations, Natural Resources Law, Real Estate Law, and Trusts, as well as in the candidate’s area of expertise. In addition to teaching, the candidate will be required to participate in the service and administrative work of the Faculty and University, as required.

The preferred candidate(s) will have a law degree, with preference given to those who also have a graduate degree in law.
