The Department of Law at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for an associate professorship in the field of Tax Law. The position is to be filled as of 1 January 2018 or subject to mutual agreement.

Job description

The associate professor is expected to:
◾Contribute significantly to the department’s research and teaching environment through your presence at the department and to the overall research strategy of the School
◾Perform research-based teaching in tax law at the department’s programmes: Bachelor of Law, Master of Law, BSc/MSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law and MSc in Business Economics and Auditing, and must be able to teach in Danish
◾Supervise students writing their bachelor’s/master’s thesis as well as PhD fellows in tax law
◾Publish and impart scientific achievements, both at national and international level
◾Perform research management and be prepared to actively pursue the department objective of increased external funding.

Your qualifications

The assessment of the applicant will focus on whether the applicant can provide evidence of his or her qualifications in describing, analysing, organising and further developing the rules and principles of tax law in general or in one or more specialised fields. It will also be considered important that the applicant has demonstrated that he or she masters the rules and principles mentioned above and has a thorough knowledge of the concepts of tax law as well as a clear understanding of the relations within the tax law system. Finally, it will be considered important that the applicant has demonstrated his or her skills in further developing the discipline.

The following will form part of the assessment criteria:
◾Employment as an associate professor requires scientific qualifications equivalent to those acquired from a period of employment as an assistant professor or similar position
◾Documentary evidence provided by the applicant for original, scientific production at international level within the academic discipline
◾The applicant’s documentation for teaching qualifications.
◾In how far the applicant matches the other qualifications required in this vacancy notice.

Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course (http://cul.au.dk/en/training-courses-and-workshops/course-on-supervision-of-masterphd-students-and-collegial-supervision/) and also the course Blended Learning – Go Online http://cul.au.dk/en/training-courses-and-workshops/go-online-course-on-blended-learning/) provided by Centre for Teaching and Learning at Aarhus BSS. If you have not completed the courses before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five year period.

The Department of Law is one of the six departments at Aarhus BSS (http://bss.au.dk/en/), one of the four faculties at Aarhus University. Aarhus BSS unites the business and social science-related research fields and brings them closer together to reflect the close relationship between society and the business community. As part of a Top 100 university, Aarhus BSS – and specifically the Department of Law – has achieved the distinguished AASCB and AMBA accreditations.

With more than 60 academic staff members and 15-20 PhD students, we have a dynamic, ambitious and academically diverse research and teaching environment. In addition, we focus specifically on attracting international researchers and PhD students to the department.

At the Department of Law, we teach and carry out high-level research within key fields of Danish, European and international law. In our research, we focus continuously on increasing the department’s international impact – particularly in terms of publications. We strive to extend upon and develop our core research fields, but we also aim for our research to be at the vanguard of new judicial challenges in society and the business community. In our teaching, we strive to build bridges between theory and practice, amongst others by drawing on external teachers’ practical experience.
