Tenure-Track Lawyering Skills Faculty
The University of St. Thomas School of Law invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Lawyering Skills department, beginning in fall 2019.
St. Thomas’s Lawyering Skills program includes three required courses. Lawyering Skills faculty teach Lawyering Skills I (3 credits) in the fall semester and Lawyering Skills II (2 cr.) in the spring semester. Lawyering Skills III (2 cr.) focuses on appellate advocacy and is taught by adjunct professors.
A Lawyering Skills professor typically teaches two sections of Lawyering Skills I in the fall and two sections of Lawyering Skills II in the spring, for a total of around forty students each semester. Every other year, each Lawyering Skills professor also teaches an additional course in the spring. Other faculty responsibilities include professional engagement through research, presentation and publication, and committee service.

Located in downtown Minneapolis, the School of Law is well-placed both within the Twin Cities legal community and in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, which ranks regularly among the nation’s most livable communities.
A J.D. degree is required. Candidates should have strong academic credentials and experience as a lawyer (or judicial law clerk); teaching experience, particularly in a law-school setting, is also preferred. Candidates should be able to work collegially and constructively as part of a team, and should be prepared to teach within the structure of the overall program. Ability to articulate a scholarly agenda is required. Ability to build relationships across difference and model cultural agility is required.
