The Law Faculty at the British University in Dubai (BUiD) offers three law programmes Bachelor of Law, Master of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution and PhD in Business Law. All programmes are taught in English, candidates are expected to hold a PhD degree from a university that teaches law in English.

Law academic vacancies are for January 2023 onwards.

Selection Criteria

  • Hold a PhD in Public Law (constitutional or administrative) or criminal law from a well-recognised university.
  • Ability to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
  • Innovative teaching skills with experience in blended learning and other interactive teaching techniques are highly desired.
  • Demonstrate a solid record of research accomplishments.
  • Managerial experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in English Language and, preferably, Arabic.
  • Good communication skills; the ability to establish personal and professional credibility with internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to develop research projects, plans and strategies.
  • Contribute to the national and international accreditation of the Faculty and its programs.
  • Expected to offer academic leadership in the Faculty and ensure the effective and efficient operation and that the highest quality standards are met. It is understood that this will include:
  • being able to grow the faculty and its portfolio
  • being able to promote smart learning and the use of ICT in education
  • having a strategic vision for the faculty, and the role of the faculty in the university.

Main roles & responsibilities

  1. Governance:
  • Contribute to policy review, and development, and ensure its systematic deployment within all areas throughout the faculty to ensure compliance, accountability, and efficiency.
  1. Faculty operations and growth:
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the faculty strategic planning, action planning and budgeting, and financial strategy to achieve University strategic goals and priorities.
  • Design, develop, and maintain course content related to his/her teaching (with aid of the Head of Program and Dean of the faculty).
  1. Curriculum and accreditation:
  • Seek and maintain local and international accreditation for all programs and offerings of the faculty in collaboration with the Head of Programme, and Dean of the faculty.
  1. Research & Teaching:
  • Foster a culture of research and environment within the faculty that encourages scholarly research activities and application for research grants among both faculty and learners in coordination with the Head of Programme and Dean of the faculty.
  1. Community engagement:
  • Explore, initiate, develop and sustain a range of affiliations and partnerships with industry, government, professional and wider community to support the university and faculty’s strategic objectives, activities, and programs.

Required qualifications & skills

  • PhD in Law from a well-recognized university.
  • Academic experience is desirable.
  • Track record of effective teaching and research is desirable.
  • Ability to act corporately and work on own initiatives.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • High-level work ethics.
  • Teamwork and Time management skills.
  • Multitasking and self-disciplined.
  • Energetic and inspirational.
  • Adapts to the social and cultural environment.
  • Excellent IT skills (Social networking) and Pedagogical e-learning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the English language.
