The scholars hired through this Black academic excellence cohort hire will be welcomed into academic Departments and Faculties committed to inclusivity and academic excellence and welcomed into a growing community of Black faculty members across the university.

For this cohort hire, the University of Alberta seeks qualified individuals who self-identify as persons of Black African or Black Caribbean descent and lived experience.

The Faculty of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor with a target start date as soon as July 1, 2022. Applications for appointment at a higher rank than Associate Professor will be considered in appropriate circumstances.

Applicants will be considered in all subject areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarly research and teaching, and possess an exceptional record of academic achievement. A JD/LLB or equivalent and a doctorate in law or cognate discipline, completed or near completion (at a minimum has commenced their PhD program) is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include teaching at the undergraduate (JD) and graduate levels, conducting and publishing research in top tier journals, supervising graduate students (for senior level appointments), and making substantive contributions through service to the Faculty, the University and/or to the broader community.

Members of the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law are recognized nationally and internationally as leading scholars and teachers, and lead by example in their service to the university, legal and civic communities. The Faculty enrolls approximately 525 JD students and operates a robust graduate program.
