  • Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in International Economic Law

    Tenure-track position as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in International Economic Law in either the French Common Law Program, taught in French; the English Common Law Program, taught in English; or both. The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities including research; c) academic service activities, d) supervision of graduate students.

    Qualifications: The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in trade and investment law and a commitment to academic and teaching excellence. Candidates need to have a superior academic record, an established background in research and publication, including external research funding or the potential for such funding, and the capacity for excellence in teaching and contribution to the academic life and governance of the Faculty, as well as strong communication skills in either English or French. Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.

    Appointment at the higher ranks of Associate and Full Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess the appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.

    Exceptional candidates will be considered for appointment to the Hyman Soloway Chair in Business and Trade Law. To be eligible to be considered for the Chair, a candidate must be internationally recognized as a leading scholar with a distinguished record of research and demonstrated leadership skills. Prior experience with government and/or international organizations strengthen is an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to make substantial contributions to the Faculty, the University, and the broader community and take a leadership role in the Faculty’s International Law Group.

    Prior to appointment, candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in common law and have completed or be on the verge of completing either a master’s or doctoral degree in law or a doctoral degree in a related discipline. In the case of a candidate currently enrolled in an LL.M., the candidate must acquire the degree within 6 months of appointment. In the case of a candidate currently enrolled in a doctoral program, the candidate’s supervisor will be expected to verify that there is a reasonable likelihood that the dissertation will be submitted prior to appointment.
